The more complete your specification is, the easier it becomes to compare quotations on the same basis and avoid costly changes after production starts.

Ignoring Processing and Inspection Requirements

Buyers sometimes confirm cutting, drilling, beveling, testing, or third-party inspection too late.

These requirements can affect production planning, lead time, material utilization, and price. If they are added after the order is already in progress, the supplier may need to stop production or rework the material.

It is better to define processing, MTC requirements, dimensional inspection, UT, PMI, or other testing before the purchase order is finalized.

Choosing Only by the Lowest Price

The lowest quotation is not always the lowest final cost.

Two offers may use different steel grades, tolerances, coating masses, packing methods, or shipment terms. A cheaper quotation can become expensive if it results in rework, damaged cargo, rejected material, or additional freight.

Buyers should compare the complete technical and commercial scope, not just the price per ton.

Forgetting Packing, Shipping, and Delivery Details

Steel procurement does not end when production is finished.

Incorrect bundle weight, poor moisture protection, unsuitable container loading, or unclear Incoterms can create problems during transportation and unloading.
