Wire rod is a small diameter round steel, usually in the shape of a disc. Its diameter is usually between 5-19 millimeters, with 6-9 millimeters being the most common. This diameter range is the minimum size of the cross-section of hot-rolled steel.
The wire rod can be made of ordinary carbon steel and high-quality carbon steel. According to different steel allocation catalogs and uses, there are many types of wire rods, including ordinary low-carbon steel hot-rolled discs, high-quality carbon steel discs, carbon welding rod discs, quenched and tempered threaded discs, discs for steel wire ropes, discs for piano steel wires, and stainless steel discs.
Wire rods are mainly used for wire drawing, as billets for making steel wires and other metal products. It can also be directly used as a building material or processed into mechanical parts.
